MIA for 2 years!

Two years is a long time to stay away! For the past two years I have been writing for the Walton Sun and VIE - People + Places, reporting about everything and anything IDOL.

I followed Season 9's 3rd place contestant Casey James to Ft. Worth, Texas for his Homecoming and to the Finale of American Idol in Hollywood, and saw the American Idol tour in Duluth, GA.

This year, the talent has been so great that I really had a hard time choosing who I thought would win and I can honestly say I have loved almost all of the Top 24 and beyond, to the top 40!

Early on, Colton Dixon, James Durbin, Jimmie Allen and Scotty McCreery had captured my interest, with the main thing they had in common, their faith! A pianist, a heavy metal dude, a rocker and a Country singer, almost all genres covered! Pia Toscano and Lauren Turner caught my eyes and ears, with even more diversity, a belter and a bluesy, Southern girl!

Each week as the Idols have been voted off, my constant two have been James Durbin and Scotty McCreery. James is at the top of his game, trying to bring back Metal and Scotty, is the deep-voiced, "Real" Country crooner; both are quite the entertainers!

Last week, James was eliminated in the 4th position, which I did not see coming. He has overcome his struggles with Tourette's Syndrome and his mild form of Asperger's disorder through his singing. The emotions he conveyed while performing on stage, tugged at my heartstrings. Many people thought he should not have been the one to go home but the votes cast told another story.

The top 3 remaining Idol contestants are: Lauren Alaina, Haley Reinhart and my favorite, Scotty McCreery. More about Scotty later!

Until next time,
